DIC Members | Chicago 2010

The 11th meeting of the Dean’s International Council focused on issues of urbanization in a global perspective. The meeting opened with a keynote address presented by Gary Becker, the nobel prize-winning professor of economics and sociology at the University of Chicago.  The meeting featured seven panel sessions:

  • "Iran Confronts the West: Nuclear Enrichment and Domestic Turmoil"
  • "Impact of Urbanization on Women in the Middle East"
  • "An Urban Future: From the Practical to the Theoretical"
  • "Urban Policy"
  • "Toward a 21st Century Military: Challenges and Opportunities"
  • "Refugees, Human Rights, and the United Nations: A Humanitarian Critique"

Attendees also heard from David Nirenberg, Deborah R. and Edgar D. Jannotta Professor of Medieval History and Social Thought at the University of Chicago, and Bernard Avishai, Adjunct Professor of Business at Hebrew University.
