DIC Members | Beirut 2010

The 12th meeting of the Dean’s International Council focused on enhancing dialogue and collaboration on emerging Middle East issues of international importance, including sovereign wealth funds, renewable energy, and public private partnerships.  It also sought to enrich dialogue and collaboration among DIC members, and Lebanese economic and political leaders in order to develop concepts to leverage new opportunities for improving public policy.  The opening reception was hosted by Najib Mikati, former Prime Minister of Lebanon.  The meeting included discussion panels on: financial markets and the economy; public/private partnerships in the Middle East; Lebanon’s transitions into the 21st century, and; the geopolitical influence of religion in the Middle East. 

Keynote speakers for this meeting included Charles Wheelan, Professor at Chicago Harris; Ivan Watson, CNN correspondent based in Istanbul; Michael Spagan, Professor at the University of London; Lebanese political leader Charles Rizk; and Frank Schell, Lecturer on South Asian affairs at Chicago Harris. DIC members also visited Baalbek, Damascus, Byblos, and Tripoli on historical and architectural tours.
