Internships

The vast majority of Chicago Harris students complete an internship between their first and second year of studies.  Last year, Chicago Harris provided funding for 15 students to participate in international internships.  These students worked with national governments, multilateral agencies, global NGOs, nonprofits and private corporations, such as:

  • World Trade Organization - Switzerland
  • Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – France
  • Pratham – India
  • Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs – Kosovo
  • Knesset Research and Information Center – Israel

Members of the Dean’s International Council are particularly well positioned to help Chicago Harris reach the goal of provide funding for 30 student internships.  There are two ways you can assist:

1. Identify or create an international internship opportunity.

Chicago Harris students are highly skilled in data gathering and analysis, and policy work.  We seek to identify leadership-level internships (i.e., working for the head of an organization/company, serve as project lead or coordinator, etc.).

Interns typically receive $5,000 USD for eight to ten weeks of work.  In addition, a travel stipend of $1,500 USD should be provided to offset the costs of traveling from Chicago to the internship site.  A fully funded internship would cost $6,500.

2. Provide financial support for international internships.

Many of the international internship opportunities provided by governments, NGOs, or nonprofits are unpaid or do not provide enough compensation to cover the student’s travel and living expenses.  We want to ensure that students are able to take advantage of these learning opportunities and do not have to miss out because of financial constraints.

A gift of any size would help students participate in unfunded or underfunded learning opportunities.  A gift of $2,500 would provide a meaningful travel and living stipend.
