Transportation Planning and Policy
The nation’s transportation network is the vital circulatory system for people and goods. Transportation brings food to markets, workers to jobs, students to schools and grandchildren to grandparents. Transportation touches everything and as such is a critical object of policy analysis. This course will introduce the major themes, topics, and current debates of transportation policy. Individual classes will be devoted to transit, finance, congestion, social equity, freight, urban form, energy, pollution, project evaluation, etc. Sessions will combine lectures, discussion, in-class activities, final project preparation, and guest speakers. This class does not present policy analysis methods in depth, but rather provides the context for which those methods are applied in the field of transportation.
