South Asia: Domestic and Foreign Policy Challenges
The course will comprise Monday lectures on issues of domestic and foreign policy of South Asia and will provide a framework for assessing public policy challenges. Some content related to China is presented for comparisons. A History ofIndia Volume II– Percival Spear, Penguin Books Reprinted 1990 is among the required reading and it is recommended that it be read before the first class, if possible. Unlike the other books for the course available at the University of Chicago Bookstore, it must be acquired through Amazon. That edition contains some updated material, however earlier editions are satisfactory.
Guest lecturers on Pakistan and India topics in order of appearance include Aisha Sethi,MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, the University of Chicago Medicine; Sunil Kumar, Dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Operations Management, the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
