Presidency 2012

The Purposes of Government

The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, in its continued commitment to fostering in-depth and diverse policy discourse, has embarked on a yearlong program to explore the role of government and the presidency in preparation for the 2012 presidential election.

The Presidency 2012 event series will bring presidential candidates, campaign strategists, and influential policy practitioners to the Harris School to present their views on the purposes of government in the United States, a debate that has surfaced as one of the central themes of past and upcoming elections.

The University of Chicago is providing an equal opportunity to all presidential candidates to present their views on this theme as it pertains to the economy and other policy domains, including financial markets, the military, education, health care, energy, urban affairs, and more. Students will also get the chance participate in academic seminars based on these lectures, led by Harris School faculty members.

Events will be scheduled until November 2012. Interested presidential candidates may contact the Harris School at Presidency2012@uchicago.edu for more information.
