Grants

The Program on Political Institutions provides two types of grants.

Students and faculty who are interested in either grant should submit a brief proposal (1-2 pages) that outlines their research project and funding needs. Grants will be awarded at the end of the Fall and Spring Quarters. To be considered in the Fall, proposals must arrive no later than November 15; to be considered in the Spring, proposals must arrive by April 15. Proposals can be sent via email to whowell@uchicago.edu.

Professionalization Grants

These grants are available to graduate students once per year, and are intended to help cover the costs of traveling to a professional conference. Students who are presenting a paper on political institutions at a domestic conference can request up to $500; students attending an international conference can request up to $750.

Collaborative Grants

Graduate students and faculty working together on research concerning political institutions qualify for small grants of up to $2,500. Proposals that result in a co-authored paper or book will be given priority. These funds can be used to cover costs related to research assistance, travel, data acquisition, and related expenses.
