The Treasurer's Office is seeking a summer intern to assist with department organizational analysis, development of performance measures and analysis of benefits of acquiring a Treasury Management System.  The intern will assist with development of job descriptions and work process mapping.  The intern will assist with researching three to five other large City Treasurer offices with similar responsibilities and compare organizational structure to help identify opportunities for improving operational efficiencies. In addition to this major project, the intern will be given opportunities to participate in and assist with several bond transactions that will be occurring during the summer. This should give exposure to debt issuance processes, rating agency relations and general capital markets activities. Candidate should reside in Philadelphia during the internship.

The Boston Urban Mechanics Program - Policy Institute is an eight week internship for graduate students in the City of Boston interested in working in public service. Interns will work in a cohort, generating and implementing creative and thoughtful new policies to benefit the City of Boston. Interns will have the chance to be "urban mechanics" and learn first-hand the challenges and rewards of public service in one of the nation's most innovative city governments, led by Boston Mayor Thomas M. The Office of the Controller in San Francisco is seeking one or two summer policy interns for the period from approximately July 1st until September 1st.  Project assignments will be based upon the skills of the selected candidates, but may include work on infrastructure finance, city performance measurement, budget and analysis projects, or technical assistance work for various city departments.  Compensation for the internship will total approximately $5,400 for the two month period.  More information about the office is available at www.sfcontroller.org.

UNESCO Laura Bush Traveling Fellowship 

The fellowship will help fund a proposal designed by the applicant to conduct brief work in a foreign country related to the mandate of UNESCO – using education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations.

The fellowship is intended for American college/university students who express an interest in international collaboration but as of yet had not been afforded many opportunities to travel abroad.

The length of time for the travel is expected to be between 4 and 6 weeks and should include interaction with individuals from other nations. During his/her travel, the recipient should be willing to participate in public diplomacy events arranged with the pertinent U.S. State Department Consulate, Mission, and/or Embassy.

Following the travel, the recipient agrees to submit a report describing experiences and analyzing objectives achieved; share his/her experiences with others; and be available to make a presentation to the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO.  HarrisLink (ID#9156)


Center for California Capital Fellows Program

These programs, known collectively as the Capital Fellows Programs, are nationally recognized. The 18 Assembly Fellows, 18 Senate Fellows, 18 Executive Fellows and 10 Judicial Administration Fellows receive an outstanding opportunity to engage in public service and prepare for future careers, while actively contributing to the development and implementation of public policy in California. The ranks of former fellows include a Justice of the California Supreme Court, members of the United States Congress and the State Legislature, a deputy director of the Peace Corps, state and local government officials, corporate executives and community leaders.

Fellows in each program work for 10 - 11 months, receive health benefits and a monthly stipend of $1972 and are employees of Sacramento State. They work as full-time members of a legislative, executive, or judicial branch office, and are typically given assignments with a significant amount of responsibility and challenges. Fellows also enroll as graduate students at Sacramento State and receive graduate units from the Sacramento State Government Department or Public Policy and Administration Program.  The enrollment fees are paid by the programs.  HarrisLink (ID# 9158)
