DUTIES:

Analyzes key international economic and monetary issues and policy recommendations at the request of senior Treasury officials for intended and unintended economic effects;

Participates in the most substantive aspects of formulating and implementing Department of the Treasury and U.S. Government policies pertaining to international economic organizations;

Drafts international economic policy papers defining and supporting U.S. government and Department of the Treasury macroeconomic policy positions;

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

This position has a positive education requirement. Please note that the education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If selected for the position, proof of education will be required prior to the job offer.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university that met all of that institution's requirements for a bachelor's or higher degree with a major in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus; OR

B. A combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Experience in related fields that did not involve the use and understanding of economic principles and theories may not be used as qualifying experience.

Specialized experience for the GS-11: You must have fifty-two (52) weeks of experience at the GS-9 level in Federal service, or equivalent experience in the public and/or private sector, directly related to the position that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience may include analyzing macroeconomic, financial market, international trade, or development policy.

OR -- You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.

OR -- You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools - Deputy Director ID# 8565

Position Summary

Educators and innovators across America are grappling with how to fulfill the promise of technology to boost student success and there is an urgent need to offer all of our students a personalized path to success in college, a career, and life.  To meet this challenge, Digital Promise formed the League of Innovative Schools, a unique coalition of 28 public school districts in 18 states that collectively serve more than 2.5 million students. Through partnerships with start-ups, research institutions, and one another, these districts are committed to incubating a national movement to transform teaching and learning in public education.

The Deputy Director will play an integral project management role to support the ongoing work and strategic goals of the League. In particular, the Deputy Director will have the following primary responsibilities:

1.) Developing a multi-year project plan for the League that will enable us to execute on organizational and philanthropic goals and milestones;

2.) Managing and executing League activities and milestones in multi-year grants, including project managing the work of Digital Promise staff and district teams; and

3.) Working with the League Director and the Executive Director of Digital Promise to manage relationships with League districts, their school teams, and external philanthropic, academic, and corporate partners.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of Digital Promise’s mission-driven team during an exciting period of growth. Considering the entrepreneurial nature of Digital Promise, and the variety of challenges and opportunities facing a rapidly growing nonprofit, the precise contours of this job will depend partly on whoever does it. Key Tasks and Responsibilities

•          Develop and execute a multi-year project plan for the League that incorporates strategic organizational and philanthropic milestones

•          Identify benchmarks for success in implementing a League project plan and adjust tactics on an ongoing basis to meet them

•          Support League Director in executing partnerships with education start-ups, research institutions, and districts to demonstrate, evaluate, and scale up innovations that deliver better results for students

•          Work with League Director to manage relationships with district superintendents and district leadership teams and oversee the membership expansion and new member induction process

•          Support League Director in overseeing and driving the work of League working groups

•          Oversee the startup work and ongoing maintenance of the League’s cloud-based web platform, DOCENT, which allows districts to access the same digital learning tools in one place, accelerating rapid research, rapid prototyping, and rapid adoption

•          Work with League Director and Communications Director to plan and administer biannual League meetings, monthly Digital Promise webinars, and Action Reports

•          Support League Director and Executive Director in managing Digital Promise’s relationships with academic, government, philanthropic, and private sector partners

•          Develop and responsibly manage annual League budget, regularly update the Director of the League of Innovative Schools and the Executive Director on budgeted vs. actual expenses

•          Prepare and present periodic updates to Executive Director and the Board of Directors, as appropriate

•          Creative, high-energy, mission-driven, detail-oriented problem-solver with an entrepreneurial spirit and experience in developing and overseeing complex, multi-year project plans

 Director of Policy Development, The Citizens League

The Director of Policy Development is charged with coordinating and overseeing all of the policy work of the Citizens League, ensuring that the base of stakeholders impacted by the Citizens League's policy work are organized to implement the Citizens League's policy agenda (called "civic policy making") in the process of defining problems; identifying, recommending, and advancing solutions; and producing evidence that the solutions can impact the problem.

The Director of Policy Development has primary responsibility for the development and advancement of the Citizens League's policy positions in all of these contexts. S/he works to develop the mindset that citizens have the right and responsibility to be policy makers in the settings in which they have authority and
opportunities for this to occur .

Property Rights Alliance Fellowship

The aim of the fellowship is to offer a graduate student the opportunity to work independently in the area of private property rights and international affairs, in collaboration with prominent experts and institutions in the field. The primary task during the fellow’s time is to further develop PRA’s newly created global country index of private property rights. The index serves as a gauge of a country’s efforts to protect and promote physical and intellectual private property rights through sound policies, a strong legal framework and economic development.

Additionally, the fellow will work on one or more projects of his or her interest (time permitting). These will be agreed upon with PRA’s executive director prior to the fellowship and must be compatible with the organization’s principles and objectives.  Lastly, the fellow will have the opportunity to attend meetings and conferences dealing with property rights held in the Washington, DC area.

Duration and Compensation

The fellowship takes place during the spring months and varies in duration from four to six months. Only one fellow is selected each session from a highly competitive field of international candidates. The fellow receives a $2,000 stipend each month. In addition, the individual receives a one-time travel and housing stipend of $2,000.

BES Summer Internship

The Building Excellent Schools Summer Leaders Internship is for outstanding graduate students who wish to develop their leadership capacity and eventually pursue a career in school leadership through the BES Fellowship. The summer before their final year of graduate school, BES Summer Interns spend one week receiving significant practice-based training from the expert staff at Building Excellent Schools. Then, they spend approximately four weeks completing a residency at one of the nation’s strongest urban charter schools, learning from BES Fellows and school leaders what it takes to lead a no excuses charter school. At the end of the summer, select interns are invited to participate in the BES Fellowship, which will begin at the conclusion of their graduate study, in August of the following year. Summer Fellows gain first-hand leadership and networking experience through:

•Completing high-impact projects for the City of Chicago, working side-by-side with Civic Consulting Alliance consultants and senior executives in Chicago government.

West Monroe Partners Sustainability Internship  

As a West Monroe Partners’ “business consultant – sustainability intern”, you will be a part of a consulting team, doing work for the City of Chicago in the area of Sustainability.  The City of Chicago is a recognized leader in sustainability as demonstrated by its groundbreaking Chicago Climate Action Plan launched in 2008.  The plan sets aggressive targets for reducing the amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in Chicago, namely, 25% below the 1990 emissions level by 2020, and 80% below the 1990 emissions level by 2050.  This internship opportunity will focus further advancing the City’s leadership position in the area of Sustainability.  This summer 2012 internship is paid and will last approximately six to eight weeks.

Think you're presidential material?
The Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program is a prestigious two year paid government fellowship sponsored by the Office of Personnel Management for recent graduate students who seek a two year fellowship in a United States government agency.

New regulations impacting the PMF Program took effect on July 10, 2012 and we do not have the details nor the application deadline for the 2013 PMF class.  The CDO will report the application deadline and the date of the PMF Information Session at Harris as soon as the information is available and confirmed.  Meanwhile, visit the PMF website for more information about the program and check www.usajobs.gov for the actual posting.
