The President is a Harris student who has completed his/her first year. He/she should coordinate the activities of the Board to ensure implementation of all internal and external tasks and steady communications while avoiding duplication of effort. Moreover, the President acts as the representative of the entire PPSA when communicating with faculty, administration and other entities of the university community.

The student ombudsman serves as a member of the Secretary's communication committee. This officer's primary responsibility is to foster communication between members of his/her class and the PPSA board. Responsibilities include to work with the Secretary to produce a monthly PPSA newsletter for distribution to students, faculty and staff, provide opportunities for classmates to meet with you in private to discuss their concerns (through either regularly scheduled office hours or by appointment), and assist the Secretary in any new initiatives the communications committee undertakes.

The academic and career services committee tackles a number of items throughout the school year. ACS is responsible for addressing student issues at the faculty level in addition to providing a student voice for career related matters. Each quarter, they are responsible for administering the Mid-Quarter evaluations in an effort to gauge current student perceptions and relay this information to the faculty during the quarter. Committee members take and active role serving as a liaison to field student concerns and provide communication back to the student body. The committee chairs are responsible to contribute to better career services and academic programming.

The Budget & Oversight Committee tracks funds provided by the Harris School Administration, the University of Chicago, and proceeds from events coordinated by PPSA that are granted to Harris School student organizations (HSOs). The committee also presents a yearly operational budget and authorizes additional allocations of funding from HSOs as needed if funds are available. The Student Organizations Support officers facilitate communication between PPSA and Harris Student Organizations, provide guidance to HSOs about PPSA funding and how to obtain funding from other sources, including the University of Chicago, on how to create new HSO/RSOs.

The Auction Committee is in charge of planning the Annual Public Service Auction. The PPSA Public Service Auction is "The Social Event of the Year" at The Harris School. The auction proceeds go towards a fellowship to help support Harris students who receive unpaid, public service internships in the summers between their first and second years. In 2003, the auction and fellowship was renamed in honor of Amy Marie Bosman (MPP-JD entering class of 2002).

The role of the PPSA Social and Community Events Committee is to provide regular outlets for Harris students to escape from the academic rigor of graduate school and mingle with classmates in a social setting. The Social Committee is responsible for organizing Happy Hours and non-alcohol related social activities, such as volleyball games on Lake Michigan, for the Harris Community.

The Graduate Council Representative is responsible for communicating issues of interest for Harris students to the larger University of Chicago Community. The Graduate Council is the Graduate Student arm of the University of Chicago's Student Government. The council discusses and addresses numerous issues throughout the year including Student Health Insurance, Title VI funding and Class Size. In addition the Graduate Council is responsible for hosting a number of campus-wide events for graduate students. The council works to create a sense of community among the graduate schools and divisions. Your graduate representative works to facilitate that connection by keeping Harris students informed and up to date on campus-wide events and issues.
