O.J. Heestand, Jr.

Professional Bio: 

O.J. Heestand is a private investor based in Chicago. He was formerly a managing director of the Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS A.G.) and a partner of McKinsey & Company.

Mr. Heestand was a principal architect of UBS's securities business. He came there by way of O'Connor & Associates, a major derivatives house. As the general partner responsible for strategy and corporate development, he let the formation of a joint venture with the Swiss Bank Corporation and the later sale and integration of O'Connor into SBC. In the resultant Capital Markets & Treasury Division, he headed strategic development and was a prime driver of SBC's acquisitions of Brinson Partners and S.G. Warburg. He was a member of the Management Committee and chairman of the Marketing Committee, in which capacity he led the thrust to make marketing as strong as trading in a famously trading-oriented culture.

Mr. Heestand spent his first decade in finance at the Chemical Bank, mostly in London. He started the bank's corporate financial advisory group, headed European planning, and was an aide to Walter Shipley, long-time CEO of JPMorganChase (formerly Chemical) Bank. He then spent ten years at McKinsey & Company, the management consulting firm. As a leader of McKinsey's financial institutions practice and of the firm's change management center, he worked with many of the top securities firms and banks in America, Europe, and Japan on their strategies and organization.

Mr. Heestand is a graduate of Western Reserve Academy (1962), Northwestern University (BSBA, 1966) and Columbia University (MBA, 1968).

Personal Bio: 

He has been married for over forty-five years to Pati Herrmann. Their daughter, Alexandra, works for Northwestern Hospital, and their other daughter, Anne, works in digital advertising in Los Angeles. They have all lived in London, Tokyo, and New York, as well as Chicago.
