Cherilyn G. Murer, JD, CRA, is President and CEO of Murer Consultants, Inc., a legal-based healthcare management consulting firm. Founded in 1985, Murer Consultants offers a wide range of consultative services, including the design and development of health facilities, regulatory compliance, financial management, reimbursement analysis for all venues of care, and strategic positioning for a reformed health environment.  The firm’s client base includes multi-hospital systems, academic medical centers and large physician group practices.

Over the last 27 years, Cherilyn Murer has distinguished herself as an active voice in the advancement of quality, cost-effective healthcare.  Ms. Murer has coupled her background in law with her previous operational experience as the Director of Rehabilitation Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Ms. Murer is a lecturer and educator whose focus is on helping her clients navigate through the complex regulatory, strategic and financial issues facing healthcare providers today.

Ms. Murer serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois.  She received an initial six year gubernatorial appointment in 2005 and reappointment by Governor Quinn in 2011.  Ms. Murer is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Lewis University, Romeoville, Illinois.  Ms. Murer holds a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Law in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Ms. Murer has co-authored five books published by McGraw Hill on a variety of healthcare topics, including effective case management, post-acute care reimbursement, provider-based status, compliance audits and medical records management. A sixth book, The Case Management Workbook – Defining the Role of Physicians, Nurses and Case Managers”, was published by Francis & Taylor Publications in April 2011.

Personal Bio: 

Ms. Murer holds dual American and Italian citizenships.  She and her husband Michael live in Homer Glen, Illinois and maintain a home in Begur Spain.  They have 2 children, Sasha an anesthesiologistand graduate of University of Chicago College of Medicine living in Downers Grove with her husband Matthew Demos; and Jeffrey, a Professor of Political Science St. Andrews University, living in Scotland with his wife Trenholme.  Ms. Murer and her husband are proud grandparents of three boys, Cameron 11 and twins, Nate and Jake 9.
