Professional Bio: 

Chafic joined Cabinet Abillama - a Lebanese leading law firm founded in 1965 distinguished for being one of the few specialized Lebanese firms in the Arbitration and Alternative Disputes Resolution domains as well as in Banking & Finance Laws - after having acquired a well-built work experience, through the numerous collaborations he achieved in some of Paris’s prominent banking institutions and law firms, after his specialization in Banking and Finance Laws.

Chafic is currently intensively involved in the various legal aspects of the Lebanese Banking Sector and acts as legal counsel to some of its top 5 listed local banks handling some of the Country’s most considerable banking cases and financial deals, such as bank mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, the incorporation of local banks in Europe and Africa, the legal management and resolution of a famous Bank turmoil from 2003 to 2010 in Lebanon, Europe and the US, adding to the Firm’s reputation its Banking & Finance label. Chafic also acts as legal advisor of the prominent banking regulatory bodies of the Country and with which he regularly intervenes in developing anti money laundering policies.

He also provides counsel and legal services to foreign banks, and one of Iraq’s leading banks, setting a foothold in the Iraqi market and encouraging the development of cross Lebanese-Iraqi investments.

He has been most recently deeply implicated into the establishment and counseling of financial institutions, with an emphasis on micro-credits and fiduciary operations. He is also responsible for the Firm’s involvement in Islamic finance and banking in the Lebanon.

In addition to counseling banking and financial institutions, Chafic leads the corporate team in providing legal assistance and solutions to the various local and offshore companies that seeks the Firms’ services, from their first incorporation stages, and all along their business life, brought to deal with any matter related to their tax compliance, corporate structure development, business deals and financial agreements etc.

Lastly, Chafic is involved in pro bono counseling in collaboration with the Beirut Bar Association and some of the Country’s most active ecological and environmental NGOs, he is also an active member of the Beirut Bar Association’ Human Rights Committee.

Educational Bio: 

Chafic Abillama obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in private and public Law from Saint Joseph University in 1999 and his Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance Laws from the French law school Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2002. He was called to the Beirut Bar Association in 1999.
